Compensation:

[Starting / Initial] Base Salary Pay Range: $65,000-$80,000/yr.

Responsibilities:

  • Answer incoming phone calls from Cogent's customers on their Layer 1, 2, and 3 services
  • Work with Cogent customers via phone and e-mail to identify and resolve their service related issues
  • Clearly document all steps taken to identify and resolve a customer reported issue
  • Manage a queue of customer created tickets, ensuring that customers are updated with their status and progress is being made towards resolving their issue
  • Work with and coordinate effectively with all members of the Customer Support team, other Cogent teams, as well as vendors in order to ensure swift resolution of customer issues
  • Ability to work professionally with customers, vendors, and internal groups under all circumstances
  • Manage customer expectations and escalation and de-escalate the situation as necessary.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Cisco equipment experience and certifications
  • Strong technical knowledge in the area of networking (TCP/IP), IP protocols (BGP, IGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS...), IP addressing, DNS's and IP-VPN's is desired
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability and desire to provide excellent customer service to Cogent Customers
  • Must excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills are required for success
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.

Job Summary:

The International Controller will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of our international subsidiaries and ensuring compliance with local and international accounting standards. This position will be responsible for providing accurate and timely financial reporting, driving process improvements, and supporting strategic decision-making. The successful candidate will be a strong leader with excellent communication and analytical skills, capable of working effectively in a fast-paced and multicultural environment.

Duties and Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Reports to Senior VP of Finance - International Controller
  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for international subsidiaries, ensuring accuracy and compliance with USGAAP and local GAAP.
  • Develop and maintain robust financial reporting processes and controls.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide insightful commentary on financial performance.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to senior management.

Controlling & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal policies.
  • Manage the annual audit process for international subsidiaries.
  • Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Monitor and manage foreign currency exposure.
  • Manage transfer pricing documentation and compliance.
  • Monitor cash and funding balances of the international entities.
  • Handle local statutory filings and reporting.
  • Ensure Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliance.

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve financial processes and systems.
  • Optimize the use of ERP systems and other financial tools.
  • Drive the implementation of best practices in financial management.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Manage and mentor a team of finance professionals, Maintains financial staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees
  • Collaborate with internal local finance teams and other departments to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Act as a key point of contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage the relationship with local authorities and service providers.

Educational & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration with an emphasis in Accounting, or a related field
  • Ideal candidate has 10 years+ of experience in field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
  • Previous experience as a manager, proven ability to manage and develop a team
  • Excellent computer skills; proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Proficiency with accounting software - knowledge of Microsoft Navision a plus
  • Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluency in English is essential; fluency in French, German, Spanish is desirable.
  • Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations
  • Experience with transfer pricing
  • Experience with consolidation of multi-currency financial statements
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Able to work well with senior executives and team, as well as mentor/lead, motivate and supervise other finance team members

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all network field activity on Cogent network.
  • Installation of Network Elements within Cogent Communications locations (Data centers, POPs, Hubs).

Qualifications:

  • Travel 30%, 5+ years of experience on telecommunication networks.
  • 1+ years of field experience in DWDM and / or IP networks
  • Experience in the use of telecommunications test equipment: optical power meters (OPM – OLS), OTDR, OSA, Ethernet / IP testers; interpretation of test results
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • High-energy individual with interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate peers, and drive project to completion.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Project Management experience.
  • Experience on daily operations of a Datacenter (Diesel Generator, UPS, HVAC).

Position:

We are looking to add Outside Plant engineers to join our service team. The position requires an individual who has mechanical aptitude, and is dependable, safety minded, and works well within a team environment. You will be responsible for hands-on field service work and we are looking for technicians with various levels of experience (Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3).

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all network field activity on Cogent network.
  • Working independently on complex projects typically over a 4-11 state area.
  • Assesses planned excavation/construction activities by non-Cogent agencies/organizations/companies for conflict with Cogent’s fiber cable.
  • Negotiates changes in excavation/construction activities to remove conflicts with Coagent’s fiber optics cable.
  • Analyzes and prepares cost effective OSP work orders including cost estimates, scope of work, specifications, and bid packages.
  • Supervises the engineering/construction activities of contract engineering and construction personnel as required to ensure safety and compliance with Cogent construction standards.
  • Coordinates engineering/construction activities with operations support systems, Real Estate, Contracts, and other entities.
  • Maintains the permanent as built drawings of the fiber routes in the area of responsibility and coordinates changes with the CPR and Drafting groups.
  • Coordinates with Access Management the telecommunications entrance to Cogent buildings by other communications companies.
  • Interfaces with federal, state, county, and city governments for project permitting and approvals.
  • Typically manages 3-5 projects per month costing $500K to $5M each.
  • Provides guidance/coordination/direction to lower level OSP Engineers on projects as required.
  • As required, accurately locates Cogent cable and responds to emergency situations involving the cable.
  • Team leader on major OSP construction/relocation projects and reimbursable jobs.
  • Reviews construction plans and standards of vendors doing OPS construction for Cogent.

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA (Civil Engineering preferred) or equivalent experience plus 1-5 years of experience in outside plant engineering and construction.
  • 1-5 years of experience must be in direct management of construction or engineering projects.
  • Working knowledge of Cogent cable construction standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Project Management experience
  • Basic knowledge of CAD systems, GIS and GPS field survey tools.
  • Experience maintaining a fiber network.
