State Tax Director - Washington, DC

Responsibilities:

Compliance:

  • Preparation and filing/payment of domestic state and local telecommunications, sales/use, unclaimed property and property tax returns
  • File Federal Universal Service reports to USAC - 499Q and 499A, FCC filing fee
  • File Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) reports
  • File Business License, local gross receipts and BPOL reports
  • File foreign bank and financial accounts reports (FBAR) for the company and officers
  • Assist corporate secretary with Secretary of State renewals/annual reports
  • New jurisdiction state and local tax registrations

Other

  • Manage audits - foreign VAT, State/Local transactions taxes and use tax
  • Research taxability of Cogent's products including coordination with external tax advisors
  • Provide customer service regarding taxation of customer invoices
  • Review and approve all customer exemption certificates
  • Prepare and maintain property and franchise tax accrual

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • 5-7 years of state and local tax preparation experience (preferably in the telecommunications industry)
  • Familiarity with MS Office, including strong Excel and analytical skills
  • Great Plains experience a plus
  • Strong project management skills, including working on multiple projects concurrently
  • Very detail-oriented
  • Strong inter-personal skills
